Additional Fees for Patiensts without Referrals

In line with the Medical Service Fee system set by the MHLW, the hospitals in Japan that have 200 beds or more
are required to charge the additional fee to patients without referrals.
Referral is a written request from a doctor (e.g. GP, family doctor), asking a specialist for a diagnosis, treatment, test, surgery, etc. for a particular condition.

For First Visits without a Referral

Medical Departments 5,500 yen (tax included)
Dental Departments 3,300 yen (tax included)

For Return Visits without a Referral

Medical Departments 2,750 yen (tax included)
Dental Departments 1,650 yen (tax included)

General Flow of Outpatient Clinic

1Reception

With Referral

1. Submit your Referral and Appointment letter at Patient Support Center (Counter #17).
2. Wait on a nearby sofa while your health insurance card and other submitted documents have been checked.
3. Receive your patient ID card/ check-in receipt in a yellow plastic folder, and go to the appropriate Reception (A, B, C, or D).

Without
Referral/Appointment

1. Show your Health Insurance Card and Patient ID card (if you have) at Main Reception (Counter #1 and #2).
2. Wait on a nearby sofa while your health insurance card and other submitted documents have been checked.
3. Receive your patient ID card/check-in receipt in a yellow plastic folder, and go to the appropriate Reception (A, B, C, or D).

Return Visit
By Appointment

1. Insert your Patient ID card into the Revisiting Patients Reception machine at Corner #10.
2. Confirm your appointment of the day, and touch the display.
3. Take your patient ID card/check-in receipt from the machine, and go to the appropriate Reception (A, B, C, or D).

For the First-visit Patients who don’t have a Patient ID card

Fill out the application form and submit it to a receptionist. Your patient ID card will be issued on the spot.
Please bring the card with you whenever you visit the hospital.
*The fee of 110 yen (tax included) is charged for a reissue of your Patient ID card.

2Reception A, B, C, or D(A&B on the 1st floor, C&D on the 2nd floor)

Hand in the yellow plastic folder (or the check-in receipt) at Reception A, B, C, or D, and you will receive a medical questionnaire. Return the completed questionnaire to the reception.

3Waiting Area

Please wait in front of the examination rooms when your check-in number is displayed on the monitor in patients' waiting area.
Step into the exmanination room when you see your check-in number on the monitor of the each examination room.
You can find your "check-in number" in your check-in receipt.

4Examination/Treatment

Let your full name know the doctor when you step into an examination room.
You may have diagnostic tests (blood test, urine test, x-ray and other imaging tests, etc.) before or after the doctor’s examination.

5Billing (Fee calculation?)

After all of your examination/diagnostic tests of the day, hand in your yellow plastic folder to receptionists at Reception A, B, C, D, or Billing Counter (#5 counter in the main reception).
Please wait on a nearby sofa while your bills have been calculating. Receptionists will give you back your check-in receipt after the bill calculations.

6Payment

The wall monitor above Counter #6 “Cashier” displays your check-in number, telling your bill is ready to be settled. Please go to Counter #6 “Cashier” or to the automatic payment machine (#7) to make your payment.

※Be sure to take your bill payment receipt home and keep it for medical insurance claims, tax deduction for medical expense, etc. A fee will be charged for a reissue of your receipts.

7Getting your prescription

Get your prescription filled at an insurance pharmacy nearby.
※Prescriptions are valid for 4 days including the date of issuance.

8Going home

FAQ

Yes. Patient who does not have a refferal letter will be charged with the additional fee of 5,500 yen (for medical departments) or 3,300 yen (for dental departments). Also, your waiting time is expected to be longer than patients who have a refferal letter/an appointment.

No. Most of doctors, nurses, midwives, medical technicians and other staff in the hospital speak Japanese only. We recommend you bring someone who can speak Japanese , or find a language assistance service by yourself.
When you call us before your visit, etc., please ask someone who can speak Japanese to talk on the phone instead of you.
